I believe that everybody deserves to be nourished, free of guilt & shame.

Hi, I’m Danica (she/her), an anti-diet and weight-inclusive Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor. I am passionate about helping millennial women improve their relationship to food and break up with diet culture once and for all.

I hold an undergraduate degree in human nutrition as well as a Master of Applied Nutrition degree from the University of Guelph. I have practiced dietetics in a variety of settings in southern Ontario, including a hospital, a First Nations community, and a family health team.

My favourite part of my work has been supporting individuals in one-on-one nutrition counselling. I love to get to know a client’s whole picture and partner with them on their journey to find a peaceful and healthful relationship to food.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in health and wellness. But as I moved through life and worked through my degrees, I began to feel that my view of health was different than a lot of other’s. I observed health often getting boiled down to how perfect your diet was and how many hours you were spending in the gym.

But I believe that there is more to health- it is multi-faceted and complex.

Health is about more than just what foods you are eating and how much exercise you are doing.

Health should also consider things like mental and social wellbeing, stress management, and getting enough sleep. Not to mention, many aspects of health go beyond personal choice (ex. income & social status, genetics, access to food - to name a few). But that’s a conversation I’ll save for another day.

As a dietitian, I focus primarily on healthy eating. But I also focus on making sure that healthy eating doesn’t come at the expense of other areas of health. So what is healthy eating?

Healthy eating is eating mostly balanced meals AND enjoying fun foods without guilt.

Healthy eating is eating enough to keep you energized, and enjoying a variety of satisfying foods. It is honouring your hunger, fullness and taste buds. Healthy eating is flexible and takes up only a small part of your time and energy.

As a woman navigating the wellness space, I’ve experienced first-hand the pressures we face to eat and look a certain way. I’ve heard the negative ways many women speak to themselves about food and their bodies. As a fellow millennial, I also know how done we are with accepting the status quo, and how ready we are to reclaim or time, energy, and peace.
