Frequently asked questions.

1) Is there a difference between a Registered Dietitian and a nutritionist?

In Canada, a Registered Dietitian is a regulated health profession with a protected title, similar to a physician, nurse, or pharmacist. Registered Dietitians have 5-6 years of education and training in nutrition, have completed over 1200 hours of supervised hands-on experience, and passed a registration exam. Dietitians are committed to providing high quality and evidence-based nutrition care. In most provinces, the title of nutritionist is not protected, meaning that anyone can call themselves a nutritionist regardless of their training. Read more here.

2) Do my insurance benefits cover your services?

Registered Dietitian services are covered by many extended health benefits plans! If you have an employee health plan, I recommend checking with your specific provider about coverage for nutrition services.

3) Do I need a referral to access your services?

No, you do not require a referral to access my services. However, your health insurance benefits might require you to have a referral in order to receive coverage. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to check.

4) How will we connect virtually for sessions?

At the moment, I work entirely online through secure video chat, which means you can access my services from the comfort of your own home! The platform that I use is PHIPA compliant and I take all measures available to me to protect your privacy. You will receive the link via e-mail prior to our sessions. The latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari is recommended. In case of issues with internet connection, I ask that you also bring your phone to our sessions so we can connect over the phone if needed.

5)  I am not located in Canada, can I still book with you?

Unfortunately, I am not able to see clients outside of Canada due to regulatory restrictions. At this time, my registration allows me to provide dietitian services to individuals in all provinces except, Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. If my approach resonates with you, but you are located in an area that I do not serve, please feel free to contact me and I will gladly help to connect you with a similar service in your area.
